How to Place Images in Master Frames in Adobe InDesign
See Adobe InDesign: Tips and Tricks for similar articles.
Beyond creating common elements like page numbers on master pages, placeholders can be created on the masters for both text and images. In this example, we'll look at image placeholders.
- Shown here is a large image placeholder frame created on the master pages using the Rectangle Frame Tool.

- Set the fitting by going to the Object menu, then to Fitting, and selecting Frame Fitting Options....

- In the dialog box, select Fill Frame Proportionally from the Fitting menu and click OK.

- Go to a document page using the master, then go to the File menu and select Place.

- Hover over the image placeholder frame and look closely at the loaded cursor. Note the dotted parenthesis around the PICT icon. That means that the frame is detected for the image.

- Click in the frame to place the image.
