How to Make Custom Shapes Using the Polygon Tool in Adobe InDesign

The Polygon Tool is one of the most versatile of the InDesign shape tools. It can be used to create much more than six-sided polygons.

  1. Polygon Tools can be found in two places on the Toolbar; behind both the Rectangle Frame Tool and the Rectangle Tool.Polygon Tools on the Toolbar
  2. When you drag out a shape, the default number of sides is six. If you hold down the Shift key, while dragging, the planes of the polygon will be equal in length.Six-Sided Polygon
  3. To change the number of sides, you must open the options, which can be done by simply clicking and releasing, rather than dragging out the shape. This opens a dialog box where you can specify the size and number of sides. In this example, the number three was entered to create a triangle.Polygon Options
