How to Use the Gap Tool in Adobe InDesign
See Adobe InDesign: Tips and Tricks for similar articles. The Gap Tool works to adjust the space between adjacent objects or between objects and page edges.
This feature works the same in Adobe InDesign CS5, CS6, and Creative Cloud (CC).
- Select the Gap Tool from the Toolbar.
- When you hover over objects on the page, you'll see an invalid icon.
- When you hover over the space between objects, you'll see the Gap Tool cursor.
- To change the position of the gap, as well as the size of the objects in rows or columns, click, hold, and drag.
- To affect only the two nearest objects, hold down the Shift key and then click, hold, and drag.
- To change the size of both the column or row gap and the objects, click Ctrl+/ (PC) or the Command (Mac) key as you drag. Holding down the Shift key as well applies the change to only the two nearest objects.
