How to Control Text Wrap on Different Layers in Adobe InDesign

Have you ever used an image with the body text wrapping around it that now needs a caption? The default is that text wraps apply to all text frames, but there are ways to control that.

1. Starting with the basics, this layout uses an image with a text wrap, and the caption text frame is showing overset text because of the wrap.
2. One way to control the text wrap would be to select the caption text frame and open Text Frame Options (Ctrl+B PC / Command+B Mac), then turn on Ignore Text Wrap.
3. That method is fine, but it doesn't cover a case where a different version of the layout is needed that doesn't show the image and caption. Here's the layout with elements organized in layers. The visibility of the captions and graphics layers is turned off, yet the text wrap is still there.
4. To control layer text wraps, go to the Layers Panel and double-click the layer to be hidden to open the Layer Options dialog box. Check Suppress Text Wrap When Layer is Hidden.
5. The text reflows, ignoring the text wrap on the graphics layer.
