How to Use the Scale Tool in Adobe InDesign

The scale function is built into the Selection Tool, so the true power is not so much in the Scale Tool itself, but rather in the tool options.

  1. The Scale Tool is under the Free Transform Tool on the Toolbar. Click, hold, and select to bring it to the top level.Scale Tool in Toolbar
  2. Select an object to scale, then go to the Reference Point Selector in the Control Panel and select the point that you want the object to resize from.Reference Point to Scale From
  3. Go to the Toolbar and double-click the Scale Tool to open the options. Set the desired percentage and click Copy.Scale Options Dialog Boxes
  4. A rotated copy of the object is created.Scaled Copy of Object
  5. Because this was done through the Scale Options dialog box, it is viewed as one operation, and the Transform Again command under the Object menu can be used to create another scaled copy.Transform Again Command in Object Menu
