How to Save a Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation as an Outline

Saving your PowerPoint presentation as an outline is a good way to condense it for distributing to your audience members or for your own use as you prepare to present. To save a presentation as an outline, follow these four steps.

This feature works the same in all modern versions of Microsoft PowerPoint: 2010, 2013, and 2016.

  1. Select the File tab and click Save As.
  2. In the Save As section, navigate to the location where you want to save the file and then type a name in the File name field. Save As File Name
  3. From the Save as type drop-down list, select Outline/RTF. Save As Outline/RTF
  4. Click Save. The presentation outline is saved as a rich text file in the location you specified. Saved File
