Setup for Introduction to Angular Programming Training
Required Software
- Windows OS: Windows 8.1 or later.
- Dual Core CPU or better 64 bits
- 8 GB RAM minimum
- 20 GB in the hard disk
- Internet connection
- Most recent Google Chrome browser - Download and install
- Latest Visual Studio Code - instructions for installing are below
- Nodejs - instructions for installing are below
- Git - instructions for installing are below
Instructions
Class Files
- Download your class files (see the bottom of this page).
- Make sure the account that you are using to install the software has administrative privileges and the student using this machine will have the same rights.
- Extract the ZIP file (“WA3149_REL_1_0.zip”) to C:\
- Review that the following folders were created:
- C:\LabFiles\
- C:\Software\
- Review that the following file was created:
- C:\Software\node-v14.15.1-x64.msi
- C:\Software\Git-2.8.1-32-bit.exe
- Make sure the C:\Software and C:\LabFiles folders are writable. If they are read-only, then the software won't work and students will have problems during the labs.
Installing Node.js node-v14.15.1-x64
- Open C:\Software\
- Double click node-v14.15.1-x64.msi to begin installation.
- On the Welcome page, click Next.
- Check I accept the terms... and click Next.
- Accept default destination folder and click Next.
- Accept default Custom Setup selection and click Next.
- Accept default tools selection and click Next.
- Click Install.
- A popup window may open asking to install the software. Click Yes to continue.
- Click Finish.
Installation verification of Node.js
- Open a command prompt window.
- Enter the command: node --version
- Make sure that you see 14.15.1 as the output.
- Close all.
Installing Git-2.8.1-32-bit
IMPORTANT: Setup is easy but you need to make sure you do the change in Step 7.
- From the C:\Software\ directory run the following file: Git-2.8.1-32-bit.exe
- You may need to allow the program to run.
- Click Next.
- Click Next.
- Click Next.
- Click Next.
- Select Use Git and Optional Unix tools from the Windows Command Prompt.
- Make sure you select the 3rd option and then click Next.
- Click Next (the first option should be selected).
- Click Next (the first option should be selected).
- Leave defaults and click Install.
- De-select View Release Notes, and then click Finish.
- Close all open files.
You have completed GIT installation.
Installing Visual Studio Code
- Download the latest VS Code for Windows (stable build installer).
- Run the downloaded installer to begin the installation.
- Click Next on the welcome screen.
- Check I accept the agreement... and click Next.
- Leave the default installation location and click Next.
- Leave the default start menu folder and click Next.
- Put a check mark on all items under Additional Tasks and click Next.
- Now click Install.
- Give it some time to install.
- When it is complete, uncheck Launch Visual Studio Code and click Finish.
Installation verification of VS Code
- Launch Visual Studio Code using the shortcut on the desktop.
- Verify Visual Studio Code opens and that you see the Welcome screen.
- You may see a message to enable Java(tm) Plug-In, if so click Enable.
- You may see a message regarding Git, if so click Don't show again.
- Close all windows.
