Course Overview

This hands-on course teaches Oracle practitioners how to use AI assistant tools to work more efficiently across the Oracle development stack. Students learn to apply AI to practical, day-to-day tasks including writing and reviewing PL/SQL, building APEX page logic, debugging SQL queries, generating documentation, and interpreting unfamiliar code. The course emphasizes a critical, validation-first approach to working with AI output, so students leave confident in both the productivity gains and the appropriate limits of AI assistance.

Course Benefits

  • Learn how to write effective prompts for technical Oracle development tasks, getting more useful output with less back-and-forth
  • Use AI to generate, optimize, and debug SQL queries faster and with greater accuracy
  • Apply AI assistance to PL/SQL development, including procedures, functions, triggers, and packages
  • Leverage AI tools to build and refine Oracle APEX page logic, validations, and dynamic actions
  • Generate clear, consistent code documentation and inline comments using AI
  • Use AI to understand and navigate unfamiliar or legacy Oracle code
  • Develop a practical framework for reviewing and validating AI-generated code before deploying it
  • Understand the security and compliance considerations for using AI tools in a government or enterprise Oracle environment

Course Outline

Day 1

Students begin by developing a practical understanding of what AI assistants can and cannot do in a technical development context, and how to write effective prompts that produce useful, accurate output. From there, the focus shifts to SQL and PL/SQL work: generating and optimizing queries, writing stored procedures, functions, and triggers, debugging errors, and refactoring legacy code. Students practice iterating on prompts using real Oracle development scenarios throughout the day.

Day 2

The second day moves into APEX development, documentation, and code comprehension. Students apply AI assistance to building page logic, validations, dynamic actions, and SQL region sources, then explore how AI can generate inline comments, produce plain-language summaries of complex code, and help navigate unfamiliar or undocumented legacy systems. The day closes with a focused discussion on responsible use, including how to review AI-generated code critically, what information should not be shared with an AI tool, and how to apply these skills within government and enterprise compliance requirements.

Class Materials
