This Business Problem Solving and Strategic Decision Making training class first examines the five steps in the problem-solving process and delves into what the learner should know to solve any problem that he or she may encounter. Students will examine the various methods for defining the problem, which is an often-overlooked but important first step in the process. From there, students will learn how to generate a solution, as well as come up with alternative solutions. They will look at how to implement their chosen solution, and then how to analyze that solution to determine if it is indeed the right one, as well as gather any lessons learned to apply to future problems.
The class then focuses on how to plan, frame, and research decisions. Students also learn how to define decisions, apply appropriate decisions frames, avoid overconfidence, deal with uncertainty, generate options and select the best one, develop numerous high-quality options, evaluate the options and make a final choice, review and learn from experience, identify optimal decision outcomes, and identify and manage linked decisions, Students will also learn how an organization can benefit from employing strategic decision-making techniques, and how to use decision-making strategies to improve negotiation skills.
