Lesson: Using Internet Explorer 9

Welcome to our free Windows 7 tutorial. This tutorial is based on Webucator's Windows 7 course.

Along with Windows 7, Microsoft has launched the latest version of the Internet Explorer web browser: IE 9.

Lesson Goals

  • Learn how to browse the web using Internet Explorer 9.
  • Learn about the new features of IE 9.

Browsing the Web Using IE 9

To browse the web using IE 9:

  1. Select the Start menu button.
  2. In the Search programs and files text box, type "Internet Explorer".
  3. Select Internet Explorer.
  4. IE 9 launches.
  5. Type the URL of the website you want to visit in the address bar.
  6. Press Enter to go to the website.

New Features of IE 9

IE 9 provides a number of new features not available in previous versions of Internet Explorer.

New Browser Controls

The browser controls in IE 9 are streamlined. In the upper-right corner of the browser, you will the Home, Favorites, and Tools buttons.

  1. Clicking Home will return you to the home page.
  2. Clicking Favorites opens the Favorites Center, where you can manage your favorite websites.
  3. Clicking Tools opens IE 9 tools, including the ability to print a web page.

Search Using the Address Bar

One of the more useful new features of IE 9 is the ability to search right within the browser's address bar.

To search using the IE 9 address bar:

  1. Type a search term or incomplete website URL in the address bar.
  2. To select a link, click it.
