Using Windows

Using Windows

Working with windows allows you to organize your desktop as you work, allowing you to personalize your workflow to suit your needs.

Use Window Buttons

When working with an open window in Windows 7, you can use the three buttons in the upper-right corner:

  1. Minimize: Clicking the Minimize button removes the window from the open view on the desktop, but it remains accessible on the taskbar.
  2. Restore Down/Maximize: When a window is fully maximized, the middle button is the Restore Down button. Clicking it makes the window smaller. When the window is smaller, the button is labeled Maximize, and clicking it restores the window to its largest state.
  3. Close: Clicking the Close button fully closes the window. If you are working with a file and have made changes, you will be prompted to save your work.

Use Aero Snap

A new feature of Windows 7 that allows you to quickly maximize or minimize an open window is Aero Snap.

To use Aero Snap to maximize a window:

  1. Click the title bar of the open window.
  2. Drag it to the top of the desktop, and note that the outline of that window now fills the entire screen.
  3. Release the mouse button to maximize the window.
  4. To return the window to its previous size, click and drag the title bar away from the top of the desktop.
