Federal and State laws exist to protect employees against sexual harassment and other forms of harassment in the workplace. This lesson provides the legal definitions and explanation of harassment. Sexual harassment can include a variety of circumstances, and this lesson covers many of these unwelcome behaviors.
Understanding harassment laws is important, and identifying violations in the real world is critical and can be difficult. In this lesson, we will discuss different scenarios and you will decide if a harassment violation has occurred. You will also determine what type of violation took place.
It is best to prevent harassment from ever taking place by educating employees and managers. However, even companies with proactive initiatives and training programs cannot prevent everything. Therefore, it is essential that companies have effective processes in place for reporting harassment and for asking questions.
After harassment is reported, sometimes a new behavior surfaces called retaliation. This lesson will discuss what retaliation is and the legal actions associated with this type of conduct.
In the previous lessons, you learned about harassment laws, how to identify harassment, how to report it, and what to do about retaliation. This lesson ties all of these topics together so employees and managers know their rights that protect them against harassment, and their responsibilities to other employees.
