Phrase Elements

Phrase elements provide structural information about the content they contain. The most common phrase elements are <em> and <strong>. Both elements indicate that the element content should be emphasized. <strong> indicates stronger emphasis than <em>. Most browsers bold <strong> content and italicize <em> content.
