How to Promote Sections in an Outline in Microsoft Word

In Brief...

Once you have created an outline in your Word document, it's easy to promote any section in just a few steps.

This feature works the same in all modern versions of Microsoft Word: 2010, 2013, and 2016.

Instructions

  1. In Outline view, highlight the section you want to promote.

  2. In the Outline Tools group, select Promote.
