How to Move a Field in the Query Grid in Microsoft Access

In Brief...

You can move fields in the query grid to rearrange them.

This feature works the same in all modern versions of Microsoft Access: 2010, 2013, and 2016.


  1. Hover your mouse over the field you want to move until the cursor changes to a down arrow.

  2. Click to select the field.
    Click to Select Field

  3. Click and drag the field to its new location. A bold separator indicates the positions where you can place the field.

  4. When you reach the desired position, release the mouse button.
