How to Increase the Number of Undo Levels in Adobe Animate

  • google plus

In Brief...

Adobe Animate provides very versatile undo options, as well as the ability to change the number of undos. Keep in mind that the undo function works by maintaining a list of actions in a file, which requires system memory. The higher the number of undos, the more memory will be required. The following five steps show how to increase the number of undo levels in Animate.

Instructions

  1. Adobe Animate provides two distinct levels of undos through the Preferences settings:
    • Document-level Undo: Maintains a history of all actions taken in the Animate file in consecutive order.
    • Object-level Undo: Maintains a separate list of actions for each object in a file, so you can undo the actions taken on one object without affecting more recent actions on other objects.
  2. To change the undo settings on a PC, go to Edit > Preferences. On a Mac go to Animate > Preferences.
    Edit Menu
  3. The default is the Document-level undo. To change it, click the Undo menu and select Object-level Undo.
    Preferences
  4. The default number of undos for both Document-level and Object-level is 100, which can be changed by entering a value from 2 to 300 in the Levels field.

  5. Once you have entered the desired number of undo levels, click OK.
