How to Import a File in Microsoft Word

It's easy to import different file formats like .txt files and PDFs into Word.

This feature works the same in all modern versions of Microsoft Word: 2010, 2013, and 2016.

  1. From the File menu, select Open.
    Select Open

  2. Select where the file is located, and from the Open dialog box, select the file and click Open.
    Select File and Open
  3. The file is imported into Word.
