How to Continue a Loop in Java
continue statement causes the execution of an iteration of a loop to stop, but allows the loop to continue with the next iteration. The loop can be a
do...while loop. To understand how to continue the execution of a loop, follow these four steps.
- Open your text editor and type in the following Java statements.
The array contains dollar amounts for each item of an order. If the dollar amount for an item is negative, then a
continuestatement is issued. This action will cause the current iteration of the loop to stop, bypassing the statement that adds the line item amount to the accumulated total. Control then continues with the next array item.
- Save your file as CotinueALoop.java.
- Open a command prompt and navigate to the directory containing your Java program. Then type in the command to compile the source and hit Enter.
- You are ready to test your program. Type in the command to run the Java runtime launcher and then hit Enter. Notice the negative line item amounts were excluded from the total amount of the line items.
