How to Perform an Advanced Find in QuickBooks
After you've entered transactions such as checks, invoices, or bills, you may find you need to edit a transaction at a later date. If you need to locate and find a transaction in QuickBooks, use the Find feature. The Find feature lets you search for specific transaction numbers, dates, or items. It can be used to perform custom searches of almost every transaction field used in the various QuickBooks forms.
This feature works the same in versions 2011–2016 of QuickBooks. The Find window has two tabs; the Simple tab for performing basic searches by transaction type and the Advanced tab for performing detailed searches of specific transaction fields. To perform an advanced find, follow these five steps.
- Open the Find dialog box by one of the following methods:
- From the menu, select Edit > Find.
- Click the Find icon on the toolbar.
- Press Ctrl+F.
- From the menu, select Edit > Find.
- In the Find dialog box, select the Advanced tab.
- From the Choose Filter list box, select the first field you want to search on. (Frequently used search fields appear at the top of the list; other fields are in alphabetical order below those.)
- After selecting the filter, search criteria appear to the right of the filter list. (Options depend on the filter you select.) Provide the criteria you need to narrow your search. Notice that when you set your criteria, the filter name and criteria are added to the Current Choices table.
- Repeat steps 2 and 3 for each filter you want to apply.
- When you finish selecting filters, click Find.
