Technical Requirements

Hosted Server

Although students will need to make sure they can participate in a WebEx meeting and that their headsets are working properly, they do not need to set up any software to participate in this class. Webucator will provide a pre-configured computer for students to remote into.

System Requirements

To fully participate in our HyperV based online labs, you will need:

  • 1 GHz 32bit (x86) or 64bit (x64) processor with at least 1 GB of system memory
  • Microsoft Windows Vista SP2 or higher (If you are running Windows XP, contact us for a possible work around)
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 or higher (IE 9 recommended)
  • Monitor with a minimum screen resolution 1280 x 960 and at least with 16bit color depth(1280 x 1024 or higher 32 bit color depth recommended)
  • High speed Internet connection (200 Kb/s per user with 1 Mb burst capacity)

ActiveX Control Requirements

In addition to the above, Lab on Demand HyperV based Labs also require the installation of a Microsoft signed ActiveX control or Silverlight to work properly:

  • The Microsoft Virtual Manager Self Service Client ActiveX control must be installed
  • Requires Internet Explorer version 7 or higher
  • The first time the user connects to a lab, they are prompted to install the control
  • Power User or Administrator rights and 1MB disk space are required to install the control
  • This is a machine level control. Once it is installed, any normal user can use the control
  • Port Protocol FQDN IP Address
    • 2179 VMRDP lodhv01.ttsc.net 65.38.27.151
    • 2179 VMRDP lodhv02.ttsc.net 65.38.27.152
    • 2179 VMRDP lodhv03.ttsc.net 65.38.27.153 Through
    • 2179 VMRDP Lodhv30.ttsc.net 65.38.27.180

NOTE: The VMRDP protocol must be able to traverse Port 2179 for both TCP and UDP traffic on any firewall in between the learner and our lab server farm

Silverlight Requirements

  • Supported Browsers: Internet Explorer 7 or greater, Firefox 3.6 or greater, Chrome 12 or greater
  • Power User or Administrator rights are required to install Silverlight
  • This is a machine level control. Once it is installed, any normal user can use the control

Testing Your Connection

  1. Go to https://webucator.learnondemand.net/
  2. Enter your Webucator username and password
  3. Click the My Training button at the top of the screen
  4. Click the link for *Your Class Name*.
  5. Click on the Launch Test Lab button.
  6. This will pop-up another window, and you will want to install the ActiveX controller or Silverlight controller if needed. You may need to restart your browser.
  7. You will see a grey box with 'Objective' and 'Scenario', click "continue". You are setup correctly when you see the Windows 7 log in screen.
  8. Go to the Exit link in upper right hand corner. Click Cancel Lab and close that lab window.

FAQ

  • If you are seeing a white screen:
    • Try going over to the Machine Remote Controller drop down and change it to one of the other options. I would suggest Flash or HTML5 first.
    • If that doesn't work, try going to Exit then select Save and Close. Launch the lab again once it shows it as not running.
  • If you are seeing a black screen:
    • This is an indication that your ISP is blocking the RDP ports needed. However, switching to Silverlight should almost always work since it only needs standard ports open.
    • If you are using Windows XP, please contact us if the above doesn't work for a possible work around.
